supernatural - my bloody valentine
ok, so i got to watch this episode last sunday/monday, i think the dead of night. i was super excited to see it because i was out of town during the weekend and i was itching to see this already, especially after seeing the promos =)
so i watch it and the first act consisted of a couple coming home from a date that went seemingly well, given that they were going at each other 10 seconds into the episode. then. this happened: they start BITING each other. so that made me gag a little, but it's all good. the next frame's of jared, so the cuteness and sexiness trumped the yucky factor ;) it will ALWAYS trump something!
going back... so sam winchester was alone in investigating the deaths because dean was apparently babysitting castiel or something... anyway, sam tells dean at the motel about the deaths, gory, yucky details included.
anyhoo, we find out from sam and dean posing as feds that the hearts of the victims had markings on them: similar to what castiel engraved (quite painfully) into their ribs at the beginning of the season. castiel figures out that it's cupid who's done it and may be responsible for the deaths in the city. after the real cupid dispels this theory, famine arrives. he is an old, frail man in a wheelchair who inflicts his powers by just being there. he makes people crave for what they have been lacking in life, what they've been hungry for ~ castiel keeps eating burgers and sam is hungry for demon blood again... but dean isn't hungry for anything.
dean and castiel try to kill famine but sam stays behind, asking to be handcuffed to the bathroom sink instead, to avoid drinking. dean and castiel try to fight off famine but are overpowered because he's got demons around him and castiel doesn't have much of his mojo.
meanwhile, sam is freed by two of the famine's demons and what ensues after that breaks my heart completely. sam drinks from their blood and goes to the restaurant where dean, cas and famine were. famine was busy lecturing dean when sam appears and kills him off. the episode ends with a scene that was reminiscent of "when the levee breaks" =(
overall, the episode is a must-see. it delves into the mythology even deeper than the last time and explores sam's and dean's exclusivity ~ sam's burgeoning powers and dean's slowly diminishing determination and strength to kill lucifer. march 25 is when supernatural comes back from a month-long hiatus and i can't wait to see what they've got in store for the boys, especially because the series has been picked up for season 6. happy hunting!
