almost famous

so i was going through my "reviews" and noticed that i hadn't reviewed one of my favorite movies yet. huh. a total dud on my part, but here goes:

to those who haven't seen this before, let me cite some scenes that might make you want to watch it: kate hudson ROCKS in this movie. she got an oscar nom for it, she was that good ;) if you like music, specifically ROCK music, this film is a must-see. if you love cameron crowe, this is one of, if not THE finest work in his repertoire. if you like to cry, this is the perfect movie to bring a box of tissues to. if you're scared of flying, don't watch this movie. hey, i warned you.

so this is a story based loosely on cameron crowe's days with rolling stone magazine as a freelance reporter going on a roadtrip with one of the up and coming bands of the 70's. official IMDB synopsis reads: William Miller is a 15 year old kid, hired by Rolling Stone magazine to tour with, and write about Stillwater, an up and coming rock band. This wonderfully witty coming of age film follows William as he falls face first to confront life, love, and lingo.

the start of the movie sets the pace and already tells you it's going to be funny and witty and unforgettable. the credits are handwritten (i read somewhere it was crowe writing the names), the characters are moving and generous and lovable, the music ties them all up together - i mean, i hadn't heard the chipmunks music used in a movie other than in the chipmunks movie LOL! the young william miller just stole my heart - he is soooooooo adorable! i looked him up: michael angarano is his name. "eleven!" hahaha!

anita/zooey stole the show, i think. she wasn't in the movie a whole lot but the lines she had, the scenes she had were all a ten! i love her :)

this was the movie that made me fall in love with rock and made me discover and be receptive to all kinds of music: the who, led zeppelin, simon & garfunkel (they're on pot LOL), yes, beach boys, elton john, lynyrd skynyrd, and a whole lot more... it made me appreciate the good things in life, even the bad things in life - because it gives room for even better things that are coming your way.

watch out for my favorite scenes: the tiny dancer scene and when penny says goodbye to william.

if you want to curl up with a bowl of ice cream or popcorn and watch a "feel-good" movie, this should be part of your list :)
