yes, i like cult movies. this is no exception. when i first heard about the virgin suicides, i saw it on the mtv movie awards and sophia coppola was getting an award for it. number one reason why i wanted to see it then was because of Kirsten Dunst. she's one of my all-time favorite actresses and i feel as though we're the same in some ways because we're both taureans, our birthdays are 3 days apart, we like almost the same things, and the type of movies she's been in have been unique and controversial and she made each character her own.
tvs was a book first - i suggest you read it too. one word that would best describe this film would be: disturbing. it doesn't make you smile, it doesn't make you feel good after you've watched it, it delves into taboo stuff... the start of the movie, we see the youngest of the Lisbon girls commit suicide already: by slitting her wrists and laying in a bathtub full of water... and eventually blood. this starts off a chain of events that would lead to the untimely deaths of the remaining four - how they do it, i'll leave you to discover that for yourselves when you watch the movie.
stand out performances were of course by kirsten and hannah hall (youngest Lisbon girl, cecilia). another performance i loved was that of giovanni ribisi's - the catch is, you don't see him in the movie at all... he narrates the entire film from start to finish. he gave the movie a soul, that's the best i can describe it.
if you want to lie awake in bed and think about random things, watch this movie ;)
