the terminal

i was rewatching The Holiday and Love Actually from my DVD collection when i noticed my tom hanks collection: Catch Me If You Can, the movie he did with julia roberts and this, The Terminal. i figured since i was feeling Christmas-y and nostalgic, i put it on.

the familiar strings of john williams' most-original score begins and i am taken back to the year when i saw this with my dad :) one of the first things i immediately loved about it was that it was set in new york - my favorite city. the hustle and bustle of Christmas traffic in an airport was how the movie began and ended. all throughout the movie, tom hanks as victor/viktor navorski (he's "krakozian") gives a tour de force performance and i loved every minute of it.

moments/scenes that i enjoyed the most were, and not limited to the following:
- viktor "figuring out the quarters"
- viktor learning english
- viktor trying to get a job
- viktor helping out an employee win the heart of his ladylove :)

another standout performance came from zoe saldana. i first became aware of this actress in a movie called centerstage, where she played a bitchy ballerina. then i saw her in pirates of the caribbean and then in a movie with orlando bloom. loved all of them :) i think she's going to be the next big thing because she's been doing these big budget films lately and it's hard not to notice her obvious talent.

the terminal will draw you, make you laugh and in the end will make you cry, but the journey is worth it. spielberg and hanks tandem will always work and in this one, they never failed.
